3 Books That Should be on Every Woman in Business’ Reading List

I don’t know about you, but I get some of my greatest inspiration while reading books written by highly successful and admirable people. Individuals who have been there before and walked the path so that women (and all business people for that matter) can benefit from their trials and tribulations.

If you’re looking for several great books for women, the following three reads are definitely worthy.

1. Women in Business Should Read Unfinished Business by Anne-Marie Slaughter

Anna-Marie Slaughter, former Director of Policy Planning for Hillary Clinton, outlines the many challenges of women looking to make it to the top. Unfinished Business is about how women can break the glass ceiling, while still wanting and having a family and a healthy marriage. This book serves up some great feminist truths and highlights ways the world needs to change the way we look at both women’s and men’s roles in the workplace and home. If you’re career-orientated and want some perspective, I highly recommend this book. It’s inspirational, eye opening, and a true guide book for the aspiring business or career woman.

2. Woman Looking to Simplify Their Work Life Should Read Essentialism by Greg McKeown

While the teachings in Essentialism can be applied to all areas of your life, I think that what McKeown talks about in this book has the power to transform careers. If you’re a serial “yes” answerer, Essentialism will help you find your voice and teach you how to say “no” and “yes” in a more deliberate way, so your life can take on more direction, and you can make more of an impact. It will show you how to work towards your ultimate goal, and that it’s okay to say no to things that take away your pursuit of that goal or are simply not important to you. I’m sure every female entrepreneur or business woman knows what it’s like to take on too much; this book will give you strategies to overcome that.

3. Women Who Want to Do Good Through Business Should Read Screw Business as Usual by Richard Branson

Richard Branson, Founder of the Virgin Group, has been around the block when it comes to starting up businesses. His entrepreneurial spirit and determination to make the world a better place come together in his hilarious and insightful book, Screw Business as Usual. While many of the examples Branson uses in his book are large-scale, the lessons he provides can be applied to businesses of all sizes and serve as an inspiration that everyone in business can do something (even if it’s a small something) to make the world a better place. After reading this book, you’ll have a new-found determination to make a difference.

These business books have the power to make a real impact. If you’ve read one of these books, let me know what you thought in the comments below!
